Description
This little Green Heron posed for me in several very regal poses on a dock post at the Dry Dock Waterside Grill on Longboat Key, Florida. He stayed around long enough for me to capture six shots of him. All six are posted in this gallery. He looks so proud with his erect stance, beautiful plumage, and bright yellow eye. According to the Audubon Society, Green Herons are solitary at most seasons and often somewhat secretive, living around small bodies of water or densely vegetated areas. Seen in the open, it often flicks its tail nervously, raises and lowers its crest. The "green" on this bird's back is an iridescent color, and often looks dull bluish or simply dark.
This one, however, was right out in the open on the large body of water known as "Sarasota Bay" and he was not being very secretive, either!
