Description
This little Green Heron visited the Dry Dock Restaurant while we were having lunch. The Dry Dock Restaurant on Longboat Key is a fantastic place to photograph birds and other coastal creatures. You can be served outside on the dock overlooking Sarasota Bay and the Sarasota skyline. Beautiful!
This photograph won the October 16, 2014 weekly Observer Newspaper's Nature/Weather photo contest and was published in the Longboat Observer. The newspaper caption for this photo gave a nod to Sarasota's Nik Wallenda, the famous high-wire artist known for his recent walks across Niagra Falls and the Grand Canyon. It read, "Susan Molnar submitted this photo of a green heron doing the "Nik Wallenda" outside the Dry Dock Waterfront Grill on Longboat Key [Florida]." For those of you outside Florida who are not familiar with Nik Wallenda, he is an American acrobat, aerialist, daredevil, high-wire artist, and author. He is known for his high-wire performances without a safety net in such places as the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and many more breathtaking high-wire walks.
