A stately Great Blue Heron taking a walk along the shore of south Lido Beach, Florida. The south end of Lido Key is a favorite spot for shore fishermen. This Great Blue was waiting for a handout (or an opportunity to steal), and was not very shy about it. If you love these magnificent birds as I do, take a look through my entire gallery of Herons, where you'll find some amazing examples of these beautiful birds, including some in flight, showcasing their amazing wingspan of up to six and a half feet. Lido Key is a barrier island off the coast of Sarasota Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico side of the state.
