A beautiful Great White Egret in full mating plumage. Such a beautiful moment, as she poses among the daisies leading down to the waterside. Her Spring nest is right across the pond on the Rookery Island near Venice, Florida, and she's searching for food to feed the two hungry babies waiting in the nest. The Venice Rookery is managed by the Audubon Society and consists of a lake with an island in the middle. The island is covered with Mangroves where many different bird species build their nests. Alligators sometimes live in the lake surrounding the Rookery. This location is a favorite spot for photographers, providing great opportunities to get relatively close shots. This photograph has been digitally oil painted by the photographer. The original, unpainted photograph is also available in this same gallery.
