Brown Pelicans are one of the more common shore birds in Florida (and many other parts of the world), but I never tire of watching their magnificent flights followed by abrupt dives for fish. They are amazingly accurate and seem to always get their fish. This guy was doing some late afternoon fishing in Sarasota Bay, along Bayfront Park in downtown Sarasota, Florida. I love the way the "golden hour" sun turned his wings gold against the blue sky. Two other versions of this photograph can be found in this same gallery: one that is digitally painted as a watercolor and another that is the original un-retouched photograph. This weathered, wood-plank version is perfect for a more rustic, beach-house feel.
