Artist's Description
A stately Reddish Egret posing on the rocks at sunset on Lido Beach, Florida. Reddish Egrets fish somewhat differently than most other Egrets. Instead of quickly sticking their neck out into the water to catch fish, they are often seen running after them in knee-deep water. It's a comical sight! Lido Beach is on Lido Key, a barrier island off the coast of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico. Lido Key is part of the city of Sarasota, and its beach is known as a breeding place for many birds as well as sea turtles. The beach is beautiful, with its white sugar sand, turquoise water, and tropical sunsets like the one pictured here almost every night.
