Description
We live in a subdivision called Greenbrook, on the Gulf Coast of Florida. This gator was floating in the pond behind our house. My favorite thing about this shot is the mirror image of his head and eye in the glassy water. Gators are prolific in Florida, where there are over 2 million of them. Floridians will tell you that every fresh water pond, lake, or river either will have or has at least one Alligator in it. This is true in both urban and suburban areas throughout Florida. Gators typically leave humans alone, except when humans have fed them or when a female is protecting her nest or young (yes, the females are good moms!). However, it is safest to have a very healthy respect for them and to never allow small children or pets near fresh water habitats.
