Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon, is the most well-known sight identifying both Cannon Beach and the Oregon Coast in general.
The Oregon Coast is very different from Florida's warm, white sand and blue-green water. In Oregon, the coast is wild and rough, often with strong, cold winds, rain or deep fog, and strong waves. The water is dark blue, choppy, and sometimes has big breakers that can bring in dangerous, full-sized logs.
This photograph was taken at the best time of year to find warm (65 F), sunny weather on the coast. As you'll see in several of the other pictures in this series, this particular morning started off looking foreboding and mysterious with mists surrounding the rocks, but by late morning, the sky cleared for a beautiful Oregon-type beach day.
