Description
A brand new baby Sandhill Crane strutting her stuff down the sidewalk of our neighborhood. The little purple flower looks like an Easter bonnet! Sandhill babies take a long time to grow up, often staying with their parents for 9-10 months after hatching. Here in Florida, Sandhill Cranes are not migratory as they are in other parts of the country. This baby's parents have lived in our neighborhood for several years and have successfully raised lots of babies here. Typically, they have two babies in a clutch. We always refer to them as "Niles" and "Frazier" (Crane...).
